OUR TAKE
Read local message history without sending
This open-source server concentrates on reading and querying the Mac Messages database. Its read-only design is useful when an assistant needs conversation context but has no reason to contact anyone.
Start with a smaller action surface
The README identifies this server as read-only. It does not send, edit, react to messages or mark them read. That makes it a more focused candidate for a history-retrieval task than a bridge with many mutation tools.
Use that scope intentionally. If the workflow later needs sending, add a separate reviewed path instead of pretending the reader already supports it.
Local data has a wider journey
The server reads the local Messages database on macOS. It does not provision a new business number or a hosted team inbox, and its view depends on what has synchronized to the machine.
A local server can return text to a cloud-connected assistant. Review the client and model data handling as well as the repository before treating local execution as a complete privacy guarantee.
Check the retrieval result
Choose a known conversation, a date boundary and a representative message format when evaluating the reader. Confirm that the returned text matches the data you expect before using it as the basis for summaries.
The repository describes a broad read-tool collection. Tool count alone does not show completeness, maintenance quality or fit for a particular operating-system release.
The decision in one sentence
Choose anipotts / imessage-mcp when read local message history without sending matches the task and its documented limits fit your client.
